[Updated May 2020] AMAFCA is beginning the first phase of construction of the Valle de Oro Drainage Facility. The Valle de Oro Outlet Structure Project involves creation of an outlet from Valle de Oro to the Rio Grande. This outlet will cross two MRGCD facilities, the Williams Lateral and the Riverside Drain. Construction on the Outlet Structure began in January 2020 and is anticipated to be substantially complete by the end of June 2020. This project includes construction of a gated floodwall along the edge of the Rio Grande Bosque, a maintenance access bridge, conveyance structures in the MRGCD facilities, and 200 feet of open channel swale serving as the Valle de Oro drainage outlet. As of May 2020, the project is approximately 60% complete and is on track to be completed on schedule. A reminder that because of the heavy construction, access to the Bosque from the Valle de Oro National Wildlife Refuge is closed for the duration of the project.
